Exchange Experiences

MUCH MORE THAN A STUDY ABROAD TRIP

The Linguistic track’s curriculum includes exchange weeks in the countries of the foreign languages studied by the students.

SPAIN, FRANCE and GERMANY

Over the years, Malpighi has cultivated a solid relationship with various high schools in Spain, France, and Germany where the Italian language is studied and with whom every year a curricular exchange experience is organized.

Our students stay with host families, attend lessons and participate in cultural and recreational activities. The same occurs when Malpighi hosts the foreign students.

The organization of these experiences includes the full collaboration among teachers: the objective is to allow everyone to have a true full immersion experience in another culture.
The exchange with schools for the second languages –  French and German – occurs during the course of the III year.
The exchange with schools in Spain occurs in the course of the IV year.

Beyond the exchange experience…

CHINESE LANGUAGE

Our school is officially recognized as a Confucius Class.
Students who study Chinese participate in an intensive week-long course at the Confucius Institute of Bologna with lessons in the morning and afternoon.
The course is taught by native Chinese speakers and represents the first full immersion experience in the Chinese culture.

LINGUA INGLESE

Another opportunity offered to our students for the English language is a period of study abroad; this is not mandatory but by choice and allows students to attend a semester in the UK, USA, or Australia.

CRITERIA TO PARTICIPATE IN INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY PROJECTS organized by MALPIGHI HIGH SCHOOL

These criteria are valid for international mobility projects organized by our high school.

The law gives agency to students and their families to make their own plans and take part in summer trips or study abroad trips during the school year organized by external entities (for example: agencies).

Malpighi organizes two types of international mobility projects, to which students currently enrolled in the third year can ask to take part:

1) Summer study period with attendance at a school in Australia (10 weeks in the summer between the third and fourth years):

• The available spots will be assigned based on a merit based list.

• Students can still participate in the selection even if during the intermediate report card during the third year they have at most 1 debito formativo, but it must be made up by the time they leave. Those students who have one or more debiti formativi that they have not made up cannot leave for the trip.

• To take part in the selection it is mandatory to have the approval of the Consiglio di Classe.

• It is also necessary to have a behavioral grade of a minimum of nine in the first semester of the third year. This grade is indicative of the maturity level necessary to take on a study abroad opportunity that requires participants take notable responsibility.

• The family of the student at the time of their request must accept the aforementioned conditions.

• Prior to leaving the family of the student and the student themselves must sign a “Pact of Co-Responsibility” relative to the goals of the project and the conditions (including behavioral) predetermined by our High School and the host school.

2) Attending a semester abroad (during the fourth year at our partner schools):

• The available spots will be assigned based on a merit based list.

• Required criteria includes an average of 7.0 or above in the first semester’s report card in the third year. This grade average historically indicates a solid grasp of the study methods necessary to participate successfully in the didactic activities abroad, as well as to be able to take on the necessary work to catch up with the class upon re-entry.

• Even in the case of a student with an average of 7.0 or above, the approval of the Consiglio di Classe remains necessary.

• Students can still participate in the selection even if during the intermediate report card during the third year they have at most 1 debito formativo, but it must be made up by the time they leave for the semester abroad. Those students who have one or more debiti formativi that they have not made up cannot leave for the trip.

PLEASE NOTE:

Both for the study abroad experiences organized by our High School and for those organized by outside agencies, the student must coordinate with the Consiglio di Classe for their study plan that they must follow while attending the foreign school.
The teachers in the Consiglio di Classe will maintain periodic contact with the students during their time abroad..
